Summer learning around London

An adventurous term!
Year 4
Year 4 had an exciting and educational trip to the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology. The visit supported their learning about ancient Egypt and allowed them to explore one of the most important collections of Egyptian artifacts in the UK.
During the visit, the children had the chance to look closely at fascinating objects such as ancient pottery, tools, jewellery, and even real mummies! They were especially amazed by the beautifully preserved statues and the tiny everyday items used by people thousands of years ago.
The museum staff shared interesting facts about how archaeologists discover and study these objects, helping the children understand more about life in ancient times. The visit sparked lots of curiosity and thoughtful questions.
It was a memorable trip that brought classroom learning to life and deepened the children’s understanding of ancient Egyptian history.
Year 2
In year 2 we are so proud of all the fantastic learning and amazing experiences that we have had this year!
We recently visited the Tate Modern Gallery and hugely enjoyed seeing work from some of the artists that we have been inspired by in our art lessons! We loved using our sketchbooks to draw some of the artwork that made us feel most inspired.
We have also been feeling really proud of all the progress we have made in our maths lessons this year. We have become confident at using number lines to add and subtract 2-digit numbers and can use bar models to solve problems with fractions. We truly are math-magicians!
Year 1
What a fun term we are having in Year 1! We have been really busy with lots of exciting events, including our Whole School Trip and a visit to the Postal Museum.
We visited the Postal Museum as part of our learning for History. Having learnt about the history of transport, it was amazing to see all of the old and new ways our mail gets delivered. We even got to ride on an underground railway, how cool! We also learnt about letters and what we use them for. We are going to write a letter to our new Year 2 teacher so we can tell them all about us.
We can’t wait for the last few weeks of school and to have even more fun!
Year 6
On Tuesday 17th June, 6 Oak headed into the heart of West London - Chelsea - to visit the Saatchi Gallery. They immersed themselves in the beauty, symbolism and creative power of flowers.
Year 3
This term, all of Year 3 have been working very hard on perfecting their very own hummus recipes! They started off by tasting different types of dips and then created their own version using peppers, radish and chives. Take a look at some of their tasty creations…
3 Willow, alongside the rest of Year 3, visited Westminster Abbey on 24th June. We all visited the world-famous site to learn about what happens in a church. We saw the high altar, the coronation chair and had our lunch in the cloisters!
As well as 3 Oak, 3 Willow also made two batches of hummus last week. We practised making a plain version first before evaluating our hummus so we could make it even tastier. Lots of children decided to add more paprika, lemon and cumin to give it extra flavour. We hope you tasted some of our hummus at home!
Despite the hot weather, we’ve still been working very hard at improving our writing. We’ve learnt how to write an explanation including instructions, lists and bullet points. Our explanation writing has included how the Ancient Egyptians mummified people, how to stay healthy and how different religions pray.
Year 5
This month, Year 5 pupils from Stepney Park Primary School went on two exciting trips. They visited St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Symphony Orchestra.
First, they went to St Paul’s Cathedral. It is a very big and famous church in London. The children climbed many steps to reach the top. From there, they saw beautiful views of the city. They also learned about the history of the building and how it was made. Everyone said it was fun and interesting.
The second trip was to the London Symphony Orchestra. The children listened to live music played by many instruments. The music was loud, powerful, and full of energy. They also learned about how music can tell a story without any words. Some children said this was their favourite trip ever!
Both trips helped the children learn more about history, music, and London. They also had fun and worked well together. Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped make these trips possible. The children will remember these days for a long time! We are proud of how well Year 5 behaved and how much they learned. Well done, Year 5!
Year 4
In 4 Oak, we have been curious about electricity. Through scientific investigations we have explored different materials to see which is conductive and which are insulators. This knowledge of materials has been used to make our very own switches. We made switches using paper clips and cards, this allowed us to create a pathway for the electricity to follow when the switch was closed and to ‘break’ the circuit when open.
Developing our skills as scientists, we learnt about ‘fair testing’. We discussed variables we would keep the same (constant) such as the power supply, wires and bulbs and variables we were going to test (change) such as the materials.

We have also learnt about an inventor named Samiuel Morse who invented ‘Morse Code’. In the 1800’s, Morse Code was sent through telegraphs in a series of ‘taps’ created by opening and closing a switch in an electrical circuit. We used Morse Code to ‘tap’ words to each other through a circuit with a buzzer.
