A May ... zing learning

We have been ambitious and responsible this term - just like Abby the ant and Ruby the robin!
Year 6
SATS Week
This week Year 6 are taking their 2025 SATS tests. So far, they have completed all the English tests, with just the maths tests remaining. All the adults have been very impressed with how hard the children have worked for the tests and with the fantastic focus that they are exhibiting during the exams. Well done Year 6.
6 Maple taking their first SATS test on Monday morning - you can do it!
Giant Chess
Now the sun is shining, 6 Maple have helped assemble the giant chess sets in the playground and have been enjoying some fantastic matches. They have also been helping children from younger year groups to enjoy the giant chess sets. Year 3 have been particularly enthusiastic!
Reception
This week we have been reading Oliver’s Fruit Salad. We have been developing our understanding of how to keep healthy and what makes a healthy, balanced diet. We decided to make a fruit salad as a class. We wrote a shopping list of fruit we needed to buy and wrote our method. We used a knife to cut the fruit carefully into small pieces which we placed into a bowl. We showed good hand-eye coordination when using the knife safely.
Year 4
Year 4 have been busy trying new things over the last few weeks!
In DT, we have been building circuits to create our own light-up greeting cards. Take a look and see!
We also had the overnight stay where we had a sleepover in school. We played sports, had a disco party, watched a movie and ate pizza for dinner. We got to sleep next to our friends in sleeping bags.
The next morning, it felt strange waking up next to our friends and eating breakfast together!
Year 1
In Year 1 Maple we have been trying new things like Taibah as we have been practising our performance skills for our performances for our adults. We reminded ourselves that we need to be Ruby responsible during our performance. We talked about how we need to be loud and clear so we can be heard. In our performance we collaborated to tell our carers about all the fantastic things we have learnt this year. Wow, we have remembered so much.
Tallula was so proud of us as we all remembered our lines and sung our song beautifully. You can find the video of us singing and signing on the 1 Maple classroom. We felt a little bit nervous but we were very ambitious like Abby and we all felt very happy with ourselves afterwards. We hope you enjoyed our performance!
Year 3
This week, Year 3 have had a fabulous time enjoying their late night stay on Wednesday 14th May. They have shown amazing resilience and increased their independence by staying at school until 7pm, which was a first for everyone, in addition to collaborating together in a range of activities led by the Year 3 teachers!
Take a look at how brave the children were when trying new things like roasting marshmallows in the woodlands with Bradley, how they all worked together in Just Dance with Tasnim and were ambitious with their artwork drawing self-portraits with Faiza!
To finish our fantastic event, Year 3 enjoyed a fun pizza party in the playground. Great job Year 3!
Year 2
Year 2 has been super excited about the adventures of Claude in our English unit. In the book, Claude went to visit an art gallery, and last week 2 Maple followed in his footsteps with a fantastic trip to the Tate Modern!
We didn’t spot Claude himself, but we were amazed by the wide variety of artworks we discovered – from bold sculptures and colourful paintings to creative collages, detailed prints, striking photography, and even a fascinating installation made of religious objects. The visit inspired lots of discussion and curiosity, and it gave us so many brilliant ideas for our own innovative writing.
Back in class, we imagined what might happen if Claude visited a busy city, and we’ve been using descriptive language and vivid vocabulary to bring our stories to life. What a creative and inspiring week!
