Monday 3rd July 2023

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park Primary School.

Sports Days

As you know, we are due to have two sports days this week:

Tuesday 4th July: Yr 4,5 and 6 on  and Thursday 6th July: Yr 1,2 and 3.

However, the weather forecast for tomorrow, June 4th, is looking very concerning, with thundery showers predicted throughout the day. Obviously we want sports day to be comfortable and safe, so we are considering what possible adjustments we may need to make.

We will make a final decision tomorrow morning at around 8 am and will text parents to let them know what we have decided.

Options include:

  • Starting later, as the chance of rain diminishes later on in the day. This would mean running a reduced programme, which results in children not being able to do all the activities.

  • Postponing the Yr 4,5 6 sports day to Thursday. This would mean cancelling the Yr 1,2,3 sports day, as Mile End stadium gets booked out 10 months in advance. If this was the case we would try and organise an ‘in-school mini sports event’ before the end of term for the Yr 1,2 and 3 children.

A lot of time and effort has gone into the organisation of the sports days, so let's hope that the weather forecast improves significantly overnight!

Obviously, the timings that we had planned and communicated to you in the previous sports day letter may need to be amended, but the safety arrangements will remain in place.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.
