Science in Year 4

Science

In Year 4 we have been learning about water transportation in plants. During our Science lessons this week, we carried out an enquiry into how water moves up a plant by joining straws together and seeing if we could suck water through the top straw. To make sure this was safe we all used our own straws and water bottles.

We learnt that the straws were like the tiny tubes inside of plants that suck water up and this is how water moves from the soil to the tops of plants. We had to be problem solvers and communicate with our groups to make sure the experiment worked. We showed our resilience as it did not always work at first and we had to try in different ways until we succeeded. Eventually we were all successful and by being active learners we saw for ourselves how plants function!
