September at Stepney Park

We are pleased to share some fantastic learning from across the school.

Year 1

We have been very excited to return to school. In 1 Oak we have been learning in the woodland and making artwork using natural materials. We are showing some lovely learning behaviours such as collaboration, curiosity and trying out new things. We hope you like them!!

Year 3

In 3 Oak we have settled in well to our new building and routines in the classroom. We have been learning a lot of new things in class and are all trying our best.

In Maths we have been revisiting different ways to represent numbers. We first did it practically with counters and then we drew in our books our representations. We have been working really hard at presenting our work neatly in our books.

In Science we are learning about how plants change over time.  In our class we are busy chitting potatoes and then planting them when they are ready. We are also planting cress seeds and going to watch how they change over time and then record it in our Science books.

In 3 Oak we have shown great ambition and how responsible we are.

Year 5

In 5 Oak, since the start of the school year, we have all been enjoying reading our books.

Everyone has calmly arrived at school and settled down to read the next part of their story.  Our class texts at the moment are Malala’s Magic Pencil and The Savage, which have both been used to spark great discussions in our English lessons and also for sentence writing practice.

Please make sure your child is reading at home every day for 20 minutes, as this is the best way for them to improve their reading, writing and vocabulary.

Year 2

Year 2 has started off brilliantly for 2 Oak. Coming back to school, entering a new classroom and getting to know their new teacher has all been very exciting. We have already learned so much and become acquainted with some new routines.

2 Oak has shown great ambition towards their Maths and reached high to show their skills in place value in their books. We love a challenge!

Year 4

4 Oak have been showing great ambition in their writing. We have begun reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and we have completed a range of writing tasks linked to the story, including a character description of the Iron Man and a diary entry from the point of view of another character.

We have been particularly ambitious with our descriptive vocabulary whilst also learning a variety of ways to begin our sentences.

Year 6

Year 6 have been having a great time at Mersea.

See the news section for some pictures of the activities we have taken part in.  Our time at Mersea has really helped us to bond, learn new skills and challenge ourselves.  All the staff are so proud of all the children.
