Headteacher's News

Friday 23rd January 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

School Gate Closure. From next week (Monday 26th January), we will no longer open the small gate into the alleyway on the North side of the site in the mornings. This is because it is generally used by very few children (less than 5% of the school) and the main gate to the North side of the site on Redmans Road is very close by. This will allow us to deploy staff more productively in the morning. We will continue to open this gate as usual in the afternoons, when it is generally much better-used.

All the best for the week ahead.

Richard.

Headteacher, Stepney Park Primary School.

Stars of Stepney Park

Lionesses in the making. Our girls’ football team recently competed against three other local schools in a football tournament and won every match. They are currently an undefeated team with a clean sheet — a fantastic achievement that reflects the girls’ hard work, determination and commitment. They take part in weekly lunchtime sessions led by Thahlima, where they develop their skills, resilience and passion for the game in a supportive and inclusive environment. We are incredibly proud of their success and look forward to seeing them continue to grow and shine.

Year 2 Synagogue Trip. This week, all three year 2 classes had the chance to visit a synagogue to support their learning about Judaism. During their time at Stepney Park, children visit a wide range of religious buildings, including a church, a mosque, a Hindu temple and a Buddhist centre, in addition to the synagogue.

Animal Experience. On Wednesday, our hall hosted a range of exotic visitors, including a meerkat, a snake and this bearded lizard. It was a great opportunity for children in reception, year 1, Forest and Meadow classes to touch and hold the animals and, in some cases, conquer some fears!

Notices

Coming up next week:

  • Musician visit. Professional harpist Diego Laverde Rojas will be visiting years 4-6 in assembly on Thursday 29th January. He will also be doing some work in the coming months with our school band.

  • Music around the world. Children across the school will be taking part in our Music around the world event on Friday 30th January. Ask your child what music they heard and where it came from.

Other dates to note:

  • Poetry slam. Our annual poetry slam will take place this term, with the finals on the 11th February (parents of children who make it to the finals will be invited to join us). Children who choose to participate need to practise at home, so do ask your child about the poem they will perform.

  • Next school holiday. School finishes for February half term on Friday 13th February at 3.30pm.

Please find all term dates linked here.
