Headteacher's News

Friday 13th February 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

Poetry slam. This week, we held the finals of our annual Stepney Park Poetry Slam. I was impressed by how confidently many of the finalists performed their poetry, but in particular well done to the winners, all of whom were natural performers!

Opportunities to perform in school are important: for some, these early opportunities may spark a lifelong interest in performance, while for others the inevitable nerves, anticipation and later applause help to build confidence and resilience. Later in the year, all children will have more opportunities to perform in the Spelling Bee and the Talent Show, while children in years 3 and 6 will be doing larger performances in Spring and Summer respectively.

World Book Day. We are excited to be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. To mark this event, every child will be bringing home a £1 book voucher today. These can be used to get £1 off any book or to buy one of the special £1 World Book Day books. You can use these locally at the Brick Lane Bookshop or at supermarkets or larger retailers, but they need to be used before the 15th of March.

On the day itself, children can come to school dressed up as their favourite book character, and after school will be the first day of our book fair (which will run from Thursday 5th March–Monday 9th March). Children may also choose to participate in our half term competition to design a 3D model about a book.

End of term. As you know, today is the last day of this half term and the school will be closed next week. We look forward to welcoming children back to school on Monday 23rd February.

All the best for the week ahead.

Richard.

Feeling creative in Y4. This term year 4 have spent 4 weeks working on a sewing project linked to geography. They learnt what a contour is and how it may be displayed on a map and then looked at natural features that might appear on an island such as hills, mountains, plants, rivers and lakes. When they made their islands, they used buttons, beads, ribbon and sequins to represent the natural features. They practised three kinds of stitches which were: the running stitch, the overcast stitch and the cross stitch. So many of the children improved their confidence and understanding of sewing - a big well done to them all.
