Headteacher's News

 Friday 1st May 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

Polling Day - School Closed. Firstly, a reminder that the school will be closed to children on Thursday 7th May as the school will be used as a polling station.

Reading Challenge launch. We recently launched a new reading challenge! This is a project for years 3-6 which encourages children to read a range of books including fiction and non-fiction to support them to find new genres they might enjoy. For those that participate, this will have huge benefits for their vocabulary and reading skills. All of the books are available at school or you can also pick them up at the Idea Store. When the children have finished their book, they must pass an AR quiz in order to get a stamp. Once they have collected all 5 stamps they are presented with a certificate and a bookmark of their choice. Please ask your child's teacher if you have any more questions, and do encourage your child to take part. Happy reading!

Scaffolding. You may have noticed that some scaffolding is being put up around the North Building. This is to allow for some building works to take place on the roof that unfortunately it was not possible to arrange during school holidays.

Sports Day. As previously, parents are invited to attend our Sports Days, which are coming up later in the year. Sports Day is often a special day for the children, and I know that they would love to have you cheering them on. You should have received an email with further information, but the dates are also below:

  • Nursery - Wednesday 17th June, in school

  • Reception -  afternoon of Wednesday 10th June, in school

  • Years 1 & 2 - morning of Tuesday 9th June, in school

  • Years 3 and 4 - morning of Thursday 4th June, at Mile End Stadium

  • Years 5 and 6 - afternoon of Thursday 4th June, at Mile End Stadium

  • Forest and Meadow - afternoon of Thursday 17th June, family fun and games in the park.

All the best for the week ahead.

Richard.

RE in Y4. Recently, some of our Year 4 classes went on a brilliant trip to the London Buddhist Centre. They had the opportunity to learn more about Buddhism, which they have also been learning about in RE lessons. During the visit, they met a kind and knowledgeable guide who answered lots of their questions and told them about her experience as a Buddhist. She was really impressed with how much the children already knew about Buddhism!

The visit was a valuable experience that brought children’s classroom learning to life, helping them to understand different religions and traditions. They represented the school brilliantly, with curiosity, respect and enthusiasm throughout the day.
