Headteacher's News

 Friday 8th May 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

Emails from the School. It has recently been brought to our attention that emails from the school are being filtered into some parents’ spam folders. For some parents, this has been the case even if this weekly newsletter reaches their inbox. If you think you may have missed emails (for example, recent emails about school photos), please do check your spam folder and let the office know if you haven’t received them.

Tests & Assessments. As well as the assessments that class teachers routinely make to understand how well children are learning, in the coming weeks there will be a range of national tests and assessments:

  • Reception - Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. Teachers will be using their knowledge of children to make these assessments - children won’t be doing any formal tests.

  • Y1 - Phonics Screening Check. Children will have a short check with their teacher to assess their understanding of phonics. This will take place in a few minutes outside the classroom. Some children in Y2 will also sit this check if they scored less than 32/40 last year. This will take place in the week beginning 8th June.

  • Y4 - Multiplication Tables Check. Children will take an online test of 25 times tables questions. This will take place in the week beginning 1st June.

  • Y6 - Key Stage 2 Assessments (SATs). Children will sit tests in Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar; maths and reading. Their writing will also be assessed by their teachers based on their writing in class.

The results from all of the assessments above, and others that we do internally in school, will be shared with parents in children’s end of year reports.

All the best for the week ahead.

Richard.

Measurement in Y3

In year 3, children have been learning about mass. In year 1, they used balances, but in year 3, they have learnt to use and read the information on different weighing scales. They collaborated to find the weight of the object and helped each other to start the scales at zero.

Reception’s Butterflies. This week, I received a very excited phone call from reception to visit their class to meet their five recently hatched butterflies. I was incredibly impressed with how well the children explained the butterflies’ life cycle, but also with how gentle and considerate they were around the butterflies.
