Headteacher's News

 Friday 15th May 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

Year 6 SATs. As you may know, this week children in year 6 sat their SATs tests. Although we won’t know the results for a number of weeks, I was nonetheless very impressed with the maturity and resilience they showed across the week. Well done to them all for acquitting themselves so well.

Attendance. Many parents will be well aware of the importance of good attendance at school for children’s learning and social skills, and most children at Stepney Park attend very well. However, I was struck to read in a report from the Department for Education that children whose attendance is 95% or above are 30% more likely to reach the expected standard in year 6 than those whose attendance is below 95%. Furthermore, missing just ten days in year 6 reduces the likelihood of a child reaching the expected standard by 25%. This demonstrates the value of attending school every day.

All the best for the week ahead.

Stars of Stepney Park

Y2 at the Tate Modern. At the gallery, Y2 proved to be incredibly curious explorers. They looked closely at many paintings and sculptures and discussed how different pieces made them feel. Armed with their sketchbooks, they then produced drawings that captured the unique shapes and structures they had seen. The trip also provided them with a wealth of inspiration for upcoming classroom projects.

Y2 Science. In Science, Y2 are growing seeds in class, carefully observing them as they germinate and measuring their growth daily. This hands-on investigation is helping them understand how plants grow from seeds to mature plants, and what they need to stay healthy. They are of course developing important scientific skills like close observation and measurement as they watch their experiments unfold.
