Headteacher's News

 Friday 17th July 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

SATs Results. I am very pleased to announce that our children in year 6 have done extremely well in their SATs. 76% of children at Stepney Park achieved the expected standard or better in reading, writing and maths. This is substantially better than the national average of 63%. Congratulations to children in year 6 and their teachers for everything they have achieved this year.

It is, of course, important to note that education is cumulative: these strong results represent children’s efforts and teachers’ support over their entire school lives. Naturally, we know, too, that such results would not have been possible without parents’ support. This is a community that really values education, and children are better off for it.

Child Collection Permissions. Any permissions that parents have given for other people to collect their children from school, including whether or not children can walk home alone in year 5, will roll over to next academic year. As such, please contact the school if you would like to make any changes.

End of Year Reports. These reports, which include assessments of your child’s learning and SATs results for children in year 6, will be shared by email today. Please check your junk folder as these emails will be sent using a different system to this newsletter. This is the first time that we have shared these reports by email in this way, so please do let us know if there are any unforeseen problems.

Uniform collection. Thank you to the many parents who have kindly donated their children’s unneeded uniform. This will be laundered over the weekend and available to collect for free from a stall in the playground on Monday 20th July.

All the best for the week ahead,

Richard.

Cooking in Y2. At Stepney Park, every year group has a DT unit of work on cooking. Children make variations on the same thing two or three times to practise their skills and refine their recipes. In year 2, children have been making their own couscous dishes. They have been busy designing their recipes and choosing from fresh ingredients like cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, spring onions, and even beetroot. To get ready, they practiced their expert cutting skills using a claw grip and a bridge hold. In geography, year 2 have also been learning about food and where it comes from and they went on a trip to Stepney City Farm to explore this.
