Headteacher's News

Friday 16th October 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

As we come towards the end of the first half term of the school year, I’ve been reflecting on what a tremendous half term it’s been. We’ve had residentials trips for both year 6 and year 5 (more on that below) and children have made a fantastic start to their year in their learning. I spent much of last week looking at children’s work with the leadership team and I was impressed by how hard they are working and how much they are achieving. As you know, the last day of school before the holiday is Tuesday 20th October. As this is a half term, we will finish at the usual time of 3.30pm.

Year 5 at Gilwell Park. This week almost all the children in year 5 attended their one night residential trip to Gilwell Park. When they got back to school, it was great to hear their excitement about what they had achieved, even if they didn’t think they’d be able to. A special mention should go to the children who achieved the extraordinary feat of scaling the climbing wall blindfolded!

All the best for the week ahead.

Richard.

Stars of Stepney Park

Learning in Y3. In Year 3, children have been observing plants over time in science. They have learnt about what each part of a plant does and why plants need these. Also, they have collaborated with their learning partners to observe a bean germinating over time. They noticed that after a few days being watered, the seed cracked, then the roots emerged before the stem grew higher and higher.

Our Year 3 pupils have also been absolute history superstars as they kicked off our Stone Age unit! It has been a joy to see how much learning and reading they’ve already done at home with you — their rich prior knowledge, curiosity, and sheer enthusiasm have brought classroom discussions to life. As they have explored the tools and weapons of the era, the children have been thoroughly engaged, eagerly building on what they already know and asking fantastic questions along the way.

Year 2 at the Idea Store. Year 2 went to the Idea Store in Whitechapel to discover more about the local library. They were shown how to use a library, including where to find books and how to borrow a book. The children acted responsibly by listening carefully to a new adult and making sure they used their quiet voices inside the library! The children enjoyed answering questions about books they could find and designing their own book cover. The adults were so impressed by how the children collaborated and showed curiosity during this trip!
