Headteacher's News

Friday 6th November 2026

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park,

Maths at Stepney Park. Children’s achievement in maths is something about the school that I am incredibly proud of. In 2026, 88% of children in year 6 achieved the expected standard, well above the national average of 75%. This was not a one-off: this was the fifth year in a row that children here have out-performed the average. Children also excel in the year 4 Multiplication Tables Check: 66% of children here have achieved full marks in the last couple of years, while the most recent national average was just 37%. This success is a testament to children’s hard work, teachers’ expertise and a very strong maths curriculum that Maroulla, one of our assistant heads, has developed over the last few years.

Family Homework. Along with other local schools, we share Family Homework via Google Classroom for each school holiday. This isn’t a compulsory list of tasks but rather some suggestions for activities to complete as a family that may open the door to some great learning and conversation. This term, children have brought some great work back into school, including this great timeline of Rosa Parks’ life.

Trip payments. Thank you to those parents who have already provided a contribution to cover the cost of school trips. As you know, we ask for £10 to cover the cost of each child’s trips for the whole year. We would not be able to provide the same breadth of trips without these contributions – they make a real difference. If you haven’t yet had a chance to do this, you can log into Parent Pay here.

Finally, I know that there are a number of members of our school community, both among staff and families, who will be celebrating Diwali in the coming days. For those who are, all the best for the celebration and I hope it allows for some great quality time with your families.

All the best for the week ahead.

Richard.

Stars of Stepney Park

Year 1 have been learning so much! They built London landmarks with their friends, working collaboratively together to balance the blocks carefully. They have also been drawing lots of London landmarks and even made tube maps using pipe cleaners and split pins. It was hard at first but they didn’t give up! Their fine motor skills are getting better and better!

In Geography, they have been learning about the United Kingdom. They learnt that the United Kingdom is made up of 4 countries and that we live in England. They also learnt that London is the capital city of England. The children used maps to help them to understand where each country is on the map and they put the different parts together to make the UK.

Year 1 have also been to the farm! They walked through Stepney Park and looked at deciduous and evergreen trees with the change in seasons. They loved being responsible in the new environment. They were really observant, looking closely at worms, which are the most important animal at the farm!
