Super Summer Term!

As usual, it is an absolute pleasure to compile the news this week.  Each class always has so much to share and celebrate with their learning.  The smiles, the concentration, the fun - it is evident that children at Stepney Park love their learning.  And their teachers look pretty happy too!  I wish I could teach EVERY class here!!

The Arts Award

The Arts Awards group meets every wednesday lunchtime in the Art studio. They are working towards achieving their ‘Discover’ level award.

To achieve the award you need to be able to find out about artists and discuss their artwork. To help with this the children went on a local trip to The Whitechapel Gallery.

They met Kirsty Lowry who showed them around the latest exhibition about abstract expressionist painters. The children had to decide which paintings they liked and why and then who the painting was by.  They then had to tell each other about them.

After visiting the gallery rooms they went to the studio space and made their own abstract expressionist piece of artwork on canvas using oil pastels.

The children said they had a great time. They said they found it interesting and inspiring being in a room with such big and colourful artworks and that their brains had to work hard to understand them!  Thank you Helen for all your hard work!!
